You’ll most likely wear a hospital gown the first day. So, If you are pregnant with your first baby and want to be prepared just in case you may have a c-section, or if you are having a planned c-section, then this hospital packing list is perfect for you. Other than those considerations, your hospital bag will be very similar to what you would need otherwise. (Check out my post on C-Section Scar Recovery HERE) And, you’ll need to consider where your scar will be when you finally are able to put on clothes other than a hospital gown. You won’t be moving around as much after a c-section. Since you’ll be there a little bit longer, you’ll need a few extra items that you might not need otherwise. Prepare yourself for about 3 to 4 days at the hospital with a c-section. When you have a c-section, you will be in the hospital for a few extra days beyond what you would if you have a vaginal birth.
Then consider leaving room for a couple of unnecessary things like a blow dryer, snacks and a photo prop for baby photos. You will probably want comfy clothes, some makeup, a going home outfit for you and baby, and any other home comforts you might want with you. And, your phone and a charger, and an infant car seat, then fill in the rest with what you think you might WANT. You need to focus on necessities, like insurance cards and I.D.’s. This packing list really is all you need, with maybe a couple extras just in case. I feel like a lot of hospital bag checklists out there list a lot of unnecessary items. If you have a planned c-section coming up or want to be prepared in case you might have a c-section, what you need in your hospital bag will be slightly different than a vaginal delivery.
